Artist Roberto Carlos Imbacuán

Roberto Carlos Imbacuan is a Putumayan artist from the Amazon.

He lives in Mocoa, Putumayo, Colombia, South America, and has spent his short existence painting and dancing as an artist.

From here, from this charming territory, he didn´t want to leave. He stays, making art, creating, paying tribute to the beauty of the territory, like our water sources, our water fountains, our water temples.

He grew up on the shores of the rivers, of the ravines, always in contact with the water, with the river.

And a long time ago I decided to transport them to a canvas with the painting because these places seem wonderful to me.

Through the canvas he can give a conservation message, water care, to not attack the water, the mountain, against birds, against life. Sometimes people in search of progress, to get more money, they forget of life and the house in which they live, so they attack nature.

The message through these artworks is to take care of her (nature), respect her, honor her and enjoy her healthily and preserve her just how she is, without mankind having to go and transform her, put their hand on everything. Let nature alone. She already made her on design

He was born in Puerto Umbría, which is a municipality from the municipality of Villagarzón, neighbor here, in a township called Puerto Umbría. I am of peasant origin, my family lives in the paths, in the fields, more connected with the Pachamama.

Roberto belongs to the Pasto indigenous people. He is learning more and more, every day. The paintings themselves teach him. He creates them, but they also give back.

What is his source of inspiration?

On one side mother nature within: One has to look inside in a relaxation, in a meditation, in a medicine night, and also the direct connection with nature that surrounds us.

Preserve mother nature as an artist and be capturing this beauty. And each artwork shares wisdom with him, teachings, messages. He seeks to leave those beautiful messages for the humanity, for all who observe the artworks.

Though it is just simple painted canvas, the good observer will connect, and will find a healing through the visual, because that's what it's made of.

These artworks have medicinal content. They are impregnated with what the territory is, energetically. Logically the healthiest thing is that you go directly to the space, visit the places, the waterfalls, the jungle, with all due respect and asking for permissions. When he is going to enter the mountain, he asks permission, just like when you go to someone's house. He speaks to the guardian spirits of the mountain, from his being so that they can access and likewise also take care of him, protect him, and help him practically to discharge and recharge energetically. It is the way he lives and shares it.

And with all due respect, one learns it from the natives, from the wise grandparents of medicine, from the old abuelos (grandparents).
