Shamanic, andean and native flutes

Flutes are made by flutemaker and medicine musician Ivan Zambrano from Mocoa in Putumayo, Colombia.

Ivan works with flutes since more then 16 years. He decided to build his own flutes to know and experiment new sounds. He then discovered that the flutes were not only a musical gift but a way of living. He continued learning, experimenting and researching the sounds in profoundness, the different reeds, bamboo and woods. Until he got to an understanding of the meaning of those materials for harmonic and melodic sounds with very good acoustics. 

After a while of practicing, the elaboration of many flutes - from the Andes and other parts of the world, he wanted to collect woods from different parts of nature. This is when he decided to go to the places where they through away the remains of woods, and he called this project of his life: "Recycling woods - rescuing ancestors". The instruments are made of trees and plants which for many years were cultivated by Mother Earth. And this way he is able to help with deforestation. In nearly all instruments you will find a piece of wood which was thrown away.

After some time, he cultivated a new technique of elaborating and building instruments. How to install the woods in the flutes, not only as adornment, but as tonal part of the instrument, and therewith give all his knowledge of instruments and sounds a shape in reality.

That's why each instrument has its own essence and vibration. Each instrument has its own soul. So when you play the instrument, it´s like playing a soul, because the woods, bamboos and reeds, before they were taken from earth, were alive. And respecting this energy, the instruments are created. And this is his way of building instruments, with a different feeling each day, a way of expressing something through the instrument, depending on how your way of interpreting the instrument may be.

This part of interpreting the instruments is in all flutes: Quenas, Quenachos, Quenelles, Zampoñas, Pingullos, native flutes, pentatonic flute, transverse flute, Rondadors, Capadores...and endless instruments that can come out of the empiric, indigenous, traditional creation.
